We call our community of supporters Fearless Filmmakers because here at Filmmaking Central, we promote creativity and out-of-the-box thinking when it comes to the craft and business of film.

Our community is comprised of thousands of filmmakers from around the globe – everyone from industry pros to new beginners.

What Is a Fearless Filmmaker?

Fearless Filmmaking is a Mindset

As filmmakers, we are subject to operating within an unusual industry that is often divided.

➼ There's the corporate side of the industry (aka the Studios) that operates very much like a major multi-million dollar business.

➼ Then, there's the indie side that operates outside of the Viacoms and Disneys, and instead, works like a small business.

➼ Lastly, there's the art side that operates on a level that can be compared to a painter looking to get his/her artwork featured in a gallery.

No matter what area you feel like you fit into the most, the idea behind being a Fearless Filmmaker is that you approach this industry like an ever-evolving craft. (It IS, after all, an ever-evolving craft).

Too many times I see filmmakers get stuck in their ways, arguing online about how to do things or how not to do things. There's a time and place for rules, don't get me wrong. Touch a c-stand on a union set as a PA and you'll get a talking to.

But, it's important to understand that, though the industry is steeped in tradition, there's always room for new ideas. And this is true on the creative and the business side.

Many filmmakers who fall outside the Studio System feel trapped by an industry that wasn't built for them.

It's true, the industry makes the most money from these conglomerates, therefore it caters to them almost exclusively.

But we don't have to be limited by this system. Not at all. There's always room for innovation and outside-the-box thinking.

So, we are urging you to get out of the comfort zone, stop beating your head against a brick wall, and start making movies your way.

That's what it means to be a Fearless Filmmaker.

The goal of Fearless Filmmakers is to share knowledge, engage in the industry, and form a strong community of like-minded filmmakers who want to take the industry by storm. 

We decided to create our group outside of Facebook to avoid all of the issues that come up with managing an open group. 

Who is Behind the Fearless Filmmakers?

Alex Darke and Trevor L. Nelson from Filmmaking Central and the No-Budget Filmmaking Podcast have created the Fearless Filmmakers community to unite indie filmmakers across the globe.

The mission of Filmmaking Central is:

To inspire, inform, and ignite the future of the independent filmmaking community!

In the past, finding information on filmmaking was challenging. We used to have to dig through dusty books at the library that was sometimes decades old.

Now, there’s an overabundance of information, from all different sources and in various different mediums. 

Filmmaking Central hopes to be a beacon for young filmmakers – a light to follow through the sometimes dark and windy roads of the Hollywood film industry.

The Fearless Filmmakers community is an extension of this mission and just another tool in the toolbelt of indie filmmakers everywhere.
